Windows and doors
The glass in an old window has a ripple, and the sash holding it was made to be repaired. A window that sticks is rarely a window that has to go.
We take sash out, reglaze them, replace rotted rails and sills with matching wood, and fit weatherstripping and a storm window outside. Doors are rehung, planed and tightened. Replacement is for the sash that can't be saved.

Cost
What changes the cost
No figure here, because the building sets it. These are the things that move it.
How many openings
A house of twenty windows is a project; a house of four is a visit.
Condition of the sash
Glazing putty and cords are small jobs; a rotted bottom rail is a bigger one.
Storm windows
Wood, aluminum or interior: each has its own cost and look.
Old paint
Every sash in a house built before 1978 is handled under the federal renovation rule, and that takes time.

Questions about this work
Is it cheaper to replace than repair?
Sometimes the first price is lower. Over the life of the house it often isn't, and replacement windows don't carry the original glass. The survey prices both where it makes sense.
